About the album Coney Island Baby
At the end of 1975, Lou Reed's fifth studio album will be released, titled Coney Island Baby. Many have described this particular work as Lou Reed's most romantic album. The truth is that here the artist allows rays of light to pass through and touch many of his compositions. Even the cover can hint at something like that.
The inspiration for Coney Island Baby comes from Lou Reed's then transgender friend and partner, Rachel Humphreys. The eponymous song with the album's title - one of Lou Reed's best songs - has a clear and nominal reference to her in its lyrics.
The album's chart performance was not that great. In the U.S., it reached No. 41, and in Great Britain No. 52. Lou Reed's Dutch fans elevated it to No. 4 in their country.
