About the album Laid

In 1993, James is a band that has been around for eleven years. Laid is their fifth album, and its sound will be heavily influenced by what they heard from Neil Young, with whom they had toured together previously and who at the time had returned to acoustic sound. That is why the sound of the album is acoustic and simply structured.

A major role in the sound we hear on Laid was played by the album's producer, none other than Brian Eno. James had a deep desire to collaborate with him from the beginning of their recording career. However, he ignored them until, while on vacation with his wife, he listened to some tapes they had sent him with recorded material since it was one of his wife's favorite bands. He was impressed by a rough and unrefined performance of Sometimes, and thus decided to work with the band.

Laid, one of the best albums of the Manchester group's career, reached No. 3 in the UK with sales of around 100,000 copies and No. 72 in the USA, selling 500,000 copies.
