About the album Life

The British Inspiral Carpets released their first album titled Life in 1990, surprising everyone with the sound they presented. Life seems to borrow many elements from the sixties garage scene, but the songs on the album sound so contemporary for their time that the band is immediately associated with and ranked within the Madchester music scene.

The single This Is How It Feels will sweep through and become silver in Britain due to its sales. All the compositions belong to all the members of the band, as does the production of the album for which Nick Garside also assisted. A major protagonist of the musical atmosphere of Life is Clint Boon with his distinctive old-fashioned sound from his organ that fills every song on the album.

Life reached No. 2 in the United Kingdom and sold 100,000 copies there alone. It is one of the most interesting debut albums of the British alternative rock scene ever recorded. The album, with its sound, influenced the musical developments in Britain, which led a few years later to the creation of the britpop scene.
