About the album Candleland

In 1989, Ian McCulloch leaves Echo & The Bunnymen and in the same year records and releases his debut titled Candleland, an album filled with beautiful and simple English pop and rock music.

Candleland consists of ten compositions by McCulloch, while the production is by Ray Shulman, who also handles the keyboards and bass heard in the songs. Another contribution is from Elizabeth Fraser, who lends her voice to the song Candlelight. The song that stood out was Proud To Fall as the album's first single.

The album was well-received by critics. Candlelight managed to reach No. 18 in the United Kingdom and remains the album with the highest chart position in that specific chart for Ian McCulloch.
