About the album In Search Of Space
In October 1971, Hawkwind released their second album. From the first album of the previous year to the second, there have been some changes in the composition of the group. Dave Brock, Nik Turner, and Terry Ollis on drums remain the stable core that would compose In Search Of Space. The album is known to fans of Hawkwind's music as X In Search Of Space or Xin Search Of Space.
The album opens with the composition You Shouldn't Do That, a composition lasting about 16 minutes that could be the definition of what space rock is. The song has been present in the band's live performances for years. The second side opens with Master Of The Universe, one of the most well-known and characteristic songs of Hawkwind. The album cover is the work of English graphic designer Barney Bubbles.
Steven Wilson - founder and guitarist of Porcupine Tree - ranks it among the five most influential albums he has heard in his life. In Search Of Space reached No. 18 in the United Kingdom, and its sales over time have exceeded 100,000.
