Give Me The Night by George Benson
About the album Give Me The Night
Behind the huge success of George Benson's album Give Me The Night lies the producer Quincy Jones, who used the same production team that had worked on Michael Jackson's Off The Wall the previous year. The 1980 album Give Me The Night represents the pinnacle of George Benson's shift from pure jazz to the pop and soul scene.
The record was recorded in 1980 at Cherokee (Hollywood) and Kendun Recorders (Burbank) studios in California. The main composer of the album's songs was the songwriter Rod Temperton, who wrote the title track and Love X Love. The musical style of Give Me The Night was a sophisticated blend of soul, funk, R&B, and jazz.
The album reached No. 1 on the Soul and Jazz charts and No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and went platinum in the USA, selling over 1,000,000 copies, but also in the United Kingdom.
