About the album Jazz From Hell

No one can say for sure if this was the eightieth or the hundredth album in Frank Zappa's labyrinthine career. The only certainty is that Jazz From Hell, released in November 1986, was his last studio album since from then on he would release only live recordings until his death in 1993.

Jazz From Hell was an extremely experimental electronic music album filled only with orchestral themes, not a trace of lyrics. Its title has nothing to do with Jazz as Jazz. It was a political statement by Frank Zappa about the political and social life in the U.S.A. during the "Reaganism" era, because the then U.S.A. president Ronald Reagan was sweeping away anything that existed for the benefit of the whole and the less fortunate of American society in order to transition to a state with an economy based solely on private enterprise. Thus, according to Zappa "everything in the U.S.A. then was like Jazz from hell".

Jazz From Hell earned Frank Zappa a Grammy for Best Rock Instrumental Performance.
