Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy by Elton John
About the album Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy
Elton John and Bernie Taupin create a concept album, which showcases the adventures of two heroes, Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy. In reality, the two heroes are none other than the album's creators themselves, who recount the hardships they experienced in the late 1960s in their attempt to establish themselves in the world of pop and rock music. The album Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy was released in May 1975, although it was recorded in August 1974.
Elton John wrote the songs' music during a ship voyage from England to New York. The only single from the album was "Someone Saved My Life Tonight," which refers to Elton John's relationship with a girl, Linda Woodrow, for whom he felt nothing, yet he couldn't break up with her, leading him to attempt suicide as a solution. Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy was the last album of the 1970s in which the "Elton John Band", which had accompanied him on his journey until then, participated in the recordings. Producer of the album, once again, was Gus Dudgeon. The album cover was the work of English designer Alan Aldridge, who was inspired by the classic painting by Hieronymus Bosch "The Garden of Earthly Delights" for the surreal cover.
This particular album became Elton John's fifth consecutive album to reach No. 1 on the Billboard (!) Its sales in the U.S. alone have exceeded 3,000,000 copies.
