Lost Souls by Doves
About the album Lost Souls
The band Doves from Manchester released their first album titled Lost Souls in 2000. The Doves and their album arrive at a pivotal moment for the British pop & rock music scene. The era of britpop has ended, as is the excitement for trip hop gradually fading away. The Doves, therefore, take into account all that has preceded in the past decade and which they have experienced in the early years of their youth, they combine them, adding elements from dream pop, neo-psychedelia, and the shoegazing movement from their special homeland, Manchester, and their sound is ready.
Lost Souls contains twelve compositions, which were written by all three together. Two of these are instrumental themes, the opening Firesuite and Reprise. In the rest of the songs, Jimi Goodwin alternates in interpretation with guitarist Jez Williams. The album's production was done by the band members themselves, except for the song Catch The Sun, for which they had the help of producer Steve Osborne. Catch The Sun was the second single from the album. It was preceded by The Cedar Room, while the third single was The Man Who Told Everything.
Lost Souls reached No.16 in the United Kingdom, the three singles entered the Top-40, the album managed to become platinum, and the Doves were considered one of the bands that came to renew the sound of British pop. It was not by chance that in July 2000, they opened two concerts for their compatriots, Oasis. One at Wembley Stadium in London and one at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh.
