Donna Summer by Donna Summer
About the album Donna Summer
Donna Summer's self-titled album, released on July 19, 1982, by Geffen Records, marked a significant artistic shift for the "Queen of Disco," as she left behind her longtime collaborator Giorgio Moroder to collaborate with top producer Quincy Jones. It was Donna Summer's tenth studio album.
The record was recorded between December 1981 and April 1982 in three different studios: Westlake Audio (Los Angeles), Ocean Way (Nashville), and Allen Zentz (Hollywood). The legendary Quincy Jones, with sound engineer Bruce Swedien (the team behind Michael Jackson's Thriller), was in charge of producing the record. The album is characterized by a multidimensional sound that goes beyond pure disco, incorporating elements from pop & dance, soul, funk, and rock music.
Although it did not reach the heights of her previous records, the album had a steady course. It reached No. 20 on the Billboard and remained on the charts for 37 weeks. In the United Kingdom, it reached No. 13.
