About the album Searching For The Young Soul Rebels
Dexys Midnight Runners from Birmingham, England, under the guidance of Kevin Rowland, released their debut album titled Searching For The Young Soul Rebels in 1980, an album literally drenched in blue-eyed soul, with brass instruments and an up-tempo rhythm for the most part. The album would make a sensation and the band would initially attract the interest of the public in England, but their fame would gradually surpass their country.
To complete this gem of English soul, only twelve days of recording at Chipping Norton Recording Studios were needed, with Pete Wingfield as the producer. The iconic cover photograph depicts 13-year-old Anthony O'Shaughnessy, a boy in Belfast who had gathered his things and was trying to get away from the incidents occurring in his city sometime in 1971.
Searching For The Young Soul Rebels would reach No. 6 in Britain. This is definitely due to the success of the single Geno, which had an exceptional journey, moving slowly but steadily toward the top of the UK charts and eventually reaching No. 1 on May 3, 1980.
