About the album Ocean Machine: Biomech

Ocean Machine: Biomech is the second album by Canadian Devin Townsend and was released in 1997. However, the first album, Cooked On Phonics, was released a year earlier as a project of the fictitious band Punky Brüster, behind which was Townsend.

The album Ocean Machine: Biomech is a progressive metal listening experience where many elements from alternative metal, as well as ambient music, are mixed. The recording of the album took place from September to December 1996, but compositions like Funeral, Regulator, and The Death Of Music go back at least two to three years.

After various adventures that Townsend experienced during the creation of the album, he faced yet another one: he couldn’t find a label willing to release the album. For this reason, the artist founded his own, HevyDevy. Many of the album's songs are staples in Devin Townsend's live performances.
