New World Order is the last album released by Curtis Mayfield in 1996, three years before his death and indeed this particular album is the only one he recorded after the tragic accident he had in 1990, which left him paralyzed from the waist down.

Curtis Mayfield sounds contemporary and his album's sound is adapted to the sound of the soul and R&B music of the '90s, but on the other hand, the compositions of New World Order also bear the stamp of this great artist who began his involvement with music in the '60s.

The album was nominated for a Grammy in the category Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, but it did not succeed, nor did it succeed on the Billboard as it only reached No. 137.
