About the album Lay It Down

The Canadian Cowboy Junkies pleasantly reach six studio albums with the release of Lay It Down in early 1996. In fact, with Lay It Down, the band inaugurates its collaboration with Geffen Records.

The compositions that make up Lay It Down are musically a combination of country folk, indie rock, while the overall atmosphere of the album is low tempo with few exceptions. The strong point of the album once again proves to be the performance of the then 35-year-old Margo Timmins. The producer of the album was John Keane.

Lay It Down was the last album by the Cowboy Junkies that had considerable commercial success. In Canada, its sales made it gold, while in the U.S., it reached as high as No. 55 on the Billboard chart. Part of its success is owed to its single Speaking Confidentially.
