About the album Rockin' At The Hops
Rockin' At The Hops is typically considered to be Chuck Berry's fourth LP album. Most of the songs it contains were recorded in 1959 and had already been released as singles. The first single was Childhood Sweetheart with Broken Arrow as the B-side.
The songs recorded to complete the required duration of the LP were four, and their recording took place in the spring of 1960. These were Down The Road A Piece, Confessin' The Blues, Betty Jean, and Driftin' Blues. The producers were Leonard and Phil Chess, Polish immigrants and founders of the legendary record company Chess Records, where Chuck Berry recorded his best work.
Rockin' At The Hops may be another typical rock 'n' roll album by Chuck Berry, but it sounds like something is missing. The answer is that it lacks the songwriter's own compositions, as the album contains songs by other composers for half of it.
