Survival by Bob Marley & The Wailers
About the album Survival
Bob Marley released his eleventh studio album entitled Survival in 1979, alongside the Wailers band. Survival is a highly politicized record from its cover, which features 48 flags of African countries, to the last song of the album, titled Wake Up And Live. The initial thought for the album's name was the title Black Survival.
The Jamaican artist returns “agitated” as he “was accused” of the mellow style of his previous album, Kaya. Survival was recorded during January and February 1979 at Tuff Gong Recording Studio in Kingston. The song that best summarizes the spirit of the album is Africa Unite, which unfortunately was not released as a single.
The release of Survival was banned in the country of South Africa as the Apartheid regime did not approve of the content and cover of the record. Survival, selling 100,000 copies in Spain, became platinum in the Iberian country (!)
