About the album Wonderful Life

The story of the album Wonderful Life begins in 1985 with Colin Vearncombe, also known as Black, finding himself in a tragic moment of his life due to personal and family circumstances. Thus, Black writes the title song with a sense of self-deprecation and irony. Black then recorded it as a single with Ugly Man Records, reaching No72 in the United Kingdom. In 1986, Black promoted it again through A&M Records, following the success of his single Sweetest Smile which had entered the Top-10.

Thus, Black wrote more songs which A&M released in September 1987 as the album Wonderful Life. In three songs, he had the help of Dave "Dix" Dickie, who was also the producer of the album. Two of these were the fourth and fifth singles from the album, namely I'm Not Afraid and Paradise.

The Wonderful Life album reached No3 in the United Kingdom and also achieved success in many other European countries. Its sales are estimated to be around 750,000 with half of them made in the United Kingdom.
