About the album High Land, Hard Rain

High Land, Hard Rain from 1983 is the iconic debut of the Scottish band Aztec Camera, which established the then 19-year-old Roddy Frame as one of the most charismatic composers of his generation. All the songs on the album were written by Roddy Frame, who also took on vocals, guitar, and harmonica.

The album was recorded at the end of 1982 at ICC Studios in Eastbourne, southern England. The process was very swift, as it was completed in just three weeks. Frame has described the recording as "rushed," but he believes that this worked positively by adding a sense of "urgency" to the album's sound. He used a Masano brand acoustic guitar, which he had purchased just two months prior, applying the double-tracking technique to give a crisper and fuller sound. High Land, Hard Rain is primarily categorized as Jangle Pop, New Wave, and Indie Pop, with strong folk-rock, jazz, and soul elements.

High Land, Hard Rain reached No. 22 in Great Britain. In the Indie Charts, it occupied the 1st position. The biggest success was Oblivious, which reached No. 18 in the United Kingdom after a re-release. Other well-known singles are Walk Out To Winter and Pillar To Post.
