Al Jarreau will release his fifth album titled Breakin' Away in 1981. The warm voice of the singer from Wisconsin – but who made his career in Los Angeles – combined with the jazz music that dominates the entire record creates a nighttime romantic atmosphere very characteristic of that era.
Breakin' Away will reach No. 9 on the Billboard and is his most commercially successful album.
It also became a hit in the Netherlands due to the single Roof Garden.
