Space were the pioneers of French space disco, bringing an otherworldly, futuristic sound to the global music scene of the late 70s. The band was formed in 1977 by the multi-talented Didier Marouani, who chose to perform wearing an astronaut helmet, creating a mystery around the members' identities. Their launch came with the iconic album "Magic Fly." The title track became a global phenomenon, topping the charts with its hypnotic synthesizer melodies. Their music combined electronic precision with dance rhythms, deeply influencing the evolution of synth-pop. Despite internal disagreements leading to Marouani's departure in 1979, Space left an indelible mark. Particularly significant was their immense success in the Soviet Union, where they led the western electronic music invasion. With millions of records sold, the band proved that the sound of the future could be both experimental and commercial, remaining to this day a reference point for the French electronic scene.
