Midnight Oil is an Australian rock band formed in 1972 in Sydney. The band became known for its dynamic stage presence and politically charged lyrics, which dealt with social and environmental issues. The lineup primarily consisted of vocalist Peter Garrett, guitarist Jim Moginie, guitarist Martin Rotsey, bassist Peter Gifford (and later Bones Hillman), and drummer Rob Hirst. The 1987 album "Diesel and Dust," which included the iconic track "Beds Are Burning," earned them international recognition. Through their music, Midnight Oil sought to raise awareness on issues such as the rights of Indigenous Australians and environmental protection.
