About the album Miami

Miami by the Gun Club, released on September 20, 1982, is a landmark of punk blues and early alternative country. The album was recorded in June 1982 at Blank Tape Studios in New York, produced by Chris Stein of Blondie. Its sound is more mature and "haunting" compared to their debut, combining the drive of punk with deep blues and rockabilly influences, although Stein's production was criticized by some as being more "polished" compared to the rawness of Fire Of Love. Debbie Harry contributes with backing vocals under the pseudonym "D.H. Laurence Jr.". Bassist Rob Ritter left immediately after the recordings, after first teaching his parts to his replacement, Patricia Morrison.

Although the first album by the Gun Club is called Fire Of Love (1981), the titular track is indeed included in their second album, Miami. This happened for the following reasons: The song is not an original composition by Jeffrey Lee Pierce, but a cover of a rockabilly track by Jody Reynolds from 1958. The band borrowed the song's title to name their debut, as it perfectly expressed the theme and passion of the album. The band chose to record and release their own version of the track during the sessions for Miami in 1982, under the production of Chris Stein.

Although it did not achieve massive commercial success, it was recognized as an artistic triumph, ranking among the best albums of 1982 by NME. Iconic tracks include Mother Of Earth, Carry Home, and the cover of CCR's Run Through The Jungle.
