The Last Exit by Still Corners
About the album The Last Exit
The album The Last Exit by Still Corners was released on January 22, 2021, by their own record label, Wrecking Light Records. It is the fifth studio work of the duo and is considered one of the most atmospheric milestones of their journey. Greg Hughes (half of Still Corners), who is responsible for the composition and execution of almost all instruments, took on the production.
The album is characterized by a sound that the band itself calls "desert noir". It combines dream pop with elements of Americana and folk, creating a sense of "open road" and desert solitude. The album was written and recorded partly before and during the pandemic lockdowns. The pause in touring gave the duo time to find new inspiration and add new tracks to an album they initially thought was completed. The songs speak about road myths, abandoned cities, and the eternal nature of the American desert landscape. The title track The Last Exit marks the conclusion of a thematic trilogy of songs that started with The Trip (2013) and continued with The Message (2018). The songs Static and Till We Meet Again were specifically written as a response to the isolation and restrictions of lockdowns.
Although there are no official global sales figures (due to the independent nature of the release), the album achieved great success on streaming platforms and vinyl sales, with several limited editions becoming highly sought after by collectors.
