El Vals Del Obrero by Ska-P
About the album El Vals Del Obrero
El Vals Del Obrero was the album that made the ska-punk band from Madrid known beyond the borders of Spain. Ska-P released their second album in 1996 and achieved success with singles like Cannabis or the self-titled track. The songs on the album are a strong mix of ska and punk tracks, which impress with their dynamism.
Particularly interesting is the album cover which features a male caricature figure, reminiscent of an extreme capitalist, and due to the buckle on the tie, it suggests a supporter of Dictator Franco since his supporters used to decorate their ties in this way. The opening track of the album is El Gato López, a cat who in the following years became the mascot of the band.
Ska-P were certainly not a conventional rock band. Through their songs, they wanted to "hit" the negative aspects – in their opinion – of capitalist society and not just that.
