Come On Over by Shania Twain
About the album Come On Over
Canadian Shania Twain and her then-husband and music producer/composer Robert John "Mutt" Lange set out to compose the songs for Twain's third album and could not foresee what would follow the release of Come On Over. The album was released in November 1997 and was a record whose sixteen compositions, in terms of their musical style, moved between country pop and country rock, timidly reaching the fringes of alternative rock.
The first single from the album was Love Gets Me Every Time and was released to the market in September 1997. The twelfth and final single was I'm Holdin' On to Love (To Save My Life) and was released in July 2000 (!). When you release an album that produces twelve singles, it is absolutely logical and expected for the album's sales to skyrocket. It is estimated that Come On Over has now reached 40,000,000 sales worldwide.
Come On Over is the best-selling album by a female artist. Music critics at the time it was first released did not see it as something special, and most of the reviews were negative. However, the "wizard" Robert John "Mutt" Lange had once again made the big surprise.
