Escapology by Robbie Williams
About the album Escapology
Escapology was recorded and released in the shadow of the most lucrative contract ever signed in Britain. EMI had offered Robbie Williams 80 million pounds (!) and he had accepted the offer with the primary obligation to achieve great success and career in the U.S.
Robbie Williams once again collaborates with Guy Chambers, and together they write the majority of the songs on the album. The production of Escapology is done by Chambers and Steve Power, as it had happened with the previous four albums. Escapology is released in November 2002, and its first single, Feel, immediately becomes a huge success worldwide.
The album reaches the No.1 spot in the United Kingdom the very first week of its release, selling 264,000 copies that particular week. Over the years, the album became seven times platinum in Britain. In the U.S., however, things didn’t progress as the company and he had hoped, despite the fact that the American edition of the album contained a different sequence of songs and some changes were made regarding which songs were included. Escapology reached a disappointing No.43 on the Billboard, while its sales there were limited to 145,000 copies (!) The total worldwide sales of the album have approached 8,000,000 copies.
