White City: A Novel by Pete Townshend
About the album White City: A Novel
After the end of the Who, Pete Townshend wanted to continue his recording presence as a solo artist and try his luck as a performer. The White City: A Novel from 1985 is his fifth studio album, and once again has Chris Thomas as the producer.
The White City: A Novel is essentially a concept album that tells stories about the people living in the White City suburb of London, where the residents belong to the lower economic strata of the metropolis. Pete Townshend also spent the early years of his life somewhere nearby. The composition of the songs belongs entirely to him, except for the song White City Fighting, for which he has the help of David Gilmour, who plays guitar on the track, as he also does on Give Blood.
The album has sold 500,000 copies in the USA and 250,000 in Germany.
