Ram by Paul McCartney
About the album Ram
The couple Paul & Linda McCartney spent the period from October 1970 to February 1971 preparing, writing, and recording Paul McCartney's second album, and the album will be credited to both as its creators. All this takes place in New York, while during this time legal disputes are ongoing among the four members of the Beatles, who are trying to decide how to share the name "Beatles" from that point on.
Ram was finally released in May 1971. It consists of twelve songs. Seven of them are compositions by the duo P. McCartney and L. McCartney, while the other five are exclusive compositions by Paul McCartney. The drums for the album were handled by Denny Seiwell, who would later take the permanent position of drummer for Wings. The rest who helped in the recording were session musicians. Its compositions are a mix of pop, rock, and psychedelia. The first single from the album was Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey, which climbed to the top of the Billboard charts, and thus became McCartney's first song in his personal career to reach No. 1 in the U.S. Eight more would follow (!)
Ram reached No. 1 in Great Britain and sold 60,000 copies there, while in the U.S. it reached No. 2 and sold 1,000,000 copies. The reviews it received at the time of its release were not the most positive, but this was certainly due to the publicity surrounding the breakup of the Beatles. Years later, Ram began appearing in lists by magazines, music stations, and critics of the best albums of all time.
