About the album Dance Party
In the first half of the 1960s, Martha and The Vandellas were one of the strongest cards in the Motown Records catalog. Dance Party was the third official album of the girls from Detroit and was destined to be the album that would build the legend around their name.
Dance Party contains among its twelve songs two of the biggest soul hits of the entire 1960s, Dancing In The Street and Nowhere To Run(!) One of the composers of Dancing In The Street was Marvin Gaye. Also, Hitch Hike, which closes the album, cannot be ignored. The album was recorded at Motown's "hit factory," Hitsville U.S.A., in 1964 but was released on April 12, 1965. The composers, producers, and guiding figures of the record were the team of Holland–Dozier–Holland and William "Mickey" Stevenson.
Despite the fact that the singles from the album met with success, Dance Party as an album only reached No. 139 on the Billboard.
