About the album Próxima Estación: Esperanza

Proxima Estacion: Esperanza is the second solo album by the Franco-Spanish artist Manu Chao, released after the huge success of "Clandestino". The title is inspired by an announcement in the Madrid metro (Line 4) for the Esperanza (Hope) station. The cover's artwork was designed by Frank Loriou and Manu Chao, while the photographs belong to a group of photographers, including Jean-Baptiste Mondino. Its colorful and somewhat chaotic style reflects the multicultural mood of the album.

The musical style of the album combines Latin, reggae, ska, rock, and folk elements. Overall, its style is brighter and more "playful" compared to the previous album, full of sonic experiments and "musical games". Manu Chao wrote most of the songs and took on the production along with Renaud Letang. The lyrics are multilingual, including Spanish, French, English, Portuguese, Arabic, and Galician (!) The recording was mainly done at Studio Malandro and Studios Ferber.

The biggest hit of the album was the worldwide hit Me Gustas Tú. Other well-known tracks include Merry Blues, Mr. Bobby, and La Chinita. Proxima Estacion: Esperanza has sold over 2,200,000 copies worldwide. In France alone, it sold around 900,000 copies, where it is considered one of the best-selling albums of all time. In Spain, its sales have exceeded 200,000 (!)
