Computer World by Kraftwerk
About the album Computer World
Kraftwerk, with Computer World, the eighth album of their career, released in 1981, create yet another legendary synth-pop record. It is easy to understand from the album's title or cover that it is a thematic album revolving around computer technology, which at the time of the album's release had just begun to emerge in people's lives. The compositions aim to warn the human community of the dangers they foresaw coming from the use of computers in the years to come.
Computer World was the result of recordings made at the legendary Kling Klang Studio in Düsseldorf during the years 1979, 1980, and 1981, a studio owned by the band. Florian Schneider and Ralf Hütter, members of Kraftwerk, produced the album, which was entirely analog without a trace of digital processing.
The cover design depicts the four members of the group on a computer screen. This computer was the Hazeltine 1500 model, whose price in the late '70s reached $1,125 in the American market. The present equivalent is roughly $6,000 (!)
