Torches by Foster The People
About the album Torches
The album Torches by Foster The People, released in May 2011, became one of the most significant milestones in the indie scene of the decade. The record is an explosive cocktail of indie pop, synth-pop, and indietronica, with strong doses of psychedelia and danceable rhythm. The production is a "dream team" project: Mark Foster himself collaborated with giants like Paul Epworth (Adele), Greg Kurstin (Sia), and Rich Costey. The result? Crystal-clear sound, full of "gated chords," retro synths, and falsetto vocals reminiscent of 70s disco.
The recording of the songs took place from 2009 to 2011. The album was "born" in various studios, mainly in Los Angeles (Mophonics, EastWest, Echo Studio) and also in London (The Pool, Pre Productions Studio). The single Pumped Up Kicks became a global phenomenon, reaching No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. In the U.S., it is now diamond-certified, having surpassed 14 million sales. The album also produced other hits such as Helena Beat, Don't Stop (Color On The Walls), Call It What You Want, and Houdini.
Torches debuted at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 with 33,000 sales in the first week. It is now certified triple platinum in the U.S. and reached the top (No. 1) in Australia.
