About the album Seven Αnd Τhe Ragged Tiger
The third studio album by Duran Duran was recorded somewhere between France, the Caribbean, and Australia in order for the band to avoid heavy taxation on the profits from future sales. The title of the album is Seven And The Ragged Tiger. The well-known synth-pop style used in their previous two albums is followed here as well, but with a more pronounced dance element. They collaborated with American producer Alex Sadkin on the album's production.
The number seven mentioned in the title suggests the five band members and their two managers, while the "ragged tiger" is success. They wanted to express their great effort and desire to create something together that would bring them to the top.
This desire was largely realized, as Seven And The Ragged Tiger became their first No. 1 on the charts in their homeland, the single The Reflex reached No. 1 in both Britain and the United States, and the nearly 3,000,000 copies sold so far make it the most commercially successful studio album by the group from Birmingham. It is certain that there followed a three-year period intensely focused on Duran Duran, during which all the eyes of pop music fans were on them. Duran Duran became the idols of almost every teenage girl in the Western world. Music was gradually being sidelined.
