City Boy by City Boy
About the album City Boy
In 1976, a pop/rock band from Birmingham, England, called City Boy, appeared in the British music scene. City Boy signed with Phonogram A&R and recorded their first album in the company’s studios.
In the same year, the legendary producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange returned to England from South Africa, and the record company's people brought the producer and the band together. The result was City Boy's debut, which bore the name of the band as its title. Mutt Lange would go on to produce the band's first five albums and, in reality, would become the seventh member of City Boy.
The City Boy album moves between simple pop/rock with many elements of progressive pop, while one can even discern traces of glam rock. The standout singles from the album were the songs Shake My Head And Leave and The Hap-Kido Kid. Unfortunately, neither the album nor the band made the impact they could have on the British music scene.
