Indicios by Carlos Berlanga
About the album Indicios
Indicios, released in 1994, is not just a record; it is the elegant comeback of Carlos Berlanga, the "prince" of Spanish pop, at a time when the Movida Madrileña was already a sweet memory. The album bears the seal of Berlanga himself and Juan Manuel Sueiro, with Adrián Vogel at the helm of production.
The recordings took place in 1994 in Madrid, divided between Estudios Sincronia and Estudios Kirios. The sound of Indicios is an aristocratic blend of synth-pop, dance-pop, and sophisti-pop. Berlanga infuses the electronic sound with strong doses of bossa nova, revealing his admiration for Antônio Carlos Jobim. Moreover, the cover is a direct tribute to Jobim's iconic album Wave (1967). Ana Belén participates in the track Aguas de Março, while in La Funcionaria we encounter the legendary duo Vainica Doble.
Although Berlanga never chased fleeting fame, Indicios is considered the pinnacle of his solo career. The album reached 40,000 copies in its year of release, coming close to achieving gold record status. On the back cover of the record, there is a dedication "To Olvido and Nacho, if they want it," a tender gesture of reconciliation towards his old companions from Alaska y Dinarama.
