About the album Tago Mago

Typically, Tago Mago, the second double album by the Germans Can, is an album that falls under the Krautrock music movement, but just one listen convinces the listener that the seven compositions prominently feature psychedelic rock, funk, and experimental rock. Tago Mago has rightly been characterized as the most extreme in terms of sound album by Can.

The album was recorded between November 1970 and February 1971 at Schloss Nörvenich, a mansion that had been converted into a studio. The recordings usually lasted sixteen hours a day (!). The Japanese-origin singer Damo Suzuki collaborates for the first time with the group, while all members of Can are responsible for the production of the record.

Tago Mago is an album like no other before and none like it has existed since. The influence of this record on their music has been acknowledged by everyone from Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols and Marc Bolan of T. Rex to Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream and Thom Yorke of Radiohead.
