Alf by Alison Moyet
About the album Alf
Alf is the debut of British singer and songwriter Alison Moyet after the dissolution of the short-lived duo Yazoo, which consisted of her and Vince Clarke, who had left Depeche Mode. The sound of Alf clearly marks a musical shift for Moyet, who abandons the synth-pop of Yazoo and moves towards blue-eyed soul and sophisti-pop.
Alf consists of nine songs, all of which are compositions by Moyet and the duo Jolley & Swain, who also produce the album. The only exception is the song Invisible, which was exclusively written for Alf by the legendary American composer of the 1960s, Lamont Dozier, and which was the third single from the album. The singles Love Resurrection and All Cried Out had previously been released, both of which charted successfully in many countries.
The album reached the top of the charts in Great Britain and No. 45 on the Billboard, becoming the most commercially successful album by Alison Moyet in the United States of America. It is estimated that global sales of Alf have exceeded 3,000,000 copies.
