The Boomtown Rats are an Irish rock band that was formed in 1975 in Dun Laoghaire, near Dublin. The band originally consisted of Bob Geldof (vocals), Garry Roberts (guitar), Johnnie Fingers (keyboards), Pete Briquette (bass), Gerry Cott (guitar), and Simon Crowe (drums). They achieved widespread success during the 1970s and 1980s, with hits like "I Don't Like Mondays" and "Rat Trap". They are known for their social and political awareness, as well as Geldof's involvement in the charity project "Band Aid" and organizing the "Live Aid" concert.
