Sun Ra, born Herman Poole Blount on May 22, 1914, in Birmingham, Alabama, was an American musician, composer, and bandleader known for his unique contribution to jazz and his experimental career. With his legendary Arkestra, he created a completely distinctive sound that combined jazz, Afro-futuristic philosophy, and transcendental performances. He claimed to have visited Saturn and promoted a message of peace and the achievement of human transcendence through music. Sun Ra passed away on May 30, 1993, leaving behind a significant legacy in the world of musical art.
