Screamin' Jay Hawkins, born Jalacy Hawkins on July 18, 1929, in Cleveland, Ohio, was an American singer, songwriter, and pianist known for his explosive and theatrical performances. He began his career in the 1950s and became famous through his groundbreaking song "I Put a Spell on You" in 1956, which went on to captivate and influence many generations of artists. His style combined elements of rock and roll, rhythm and blues, and pure theatricality, while his live performances were filled with drama and humor. Hawkins remained active in the music scene until his death in 2000.
