Michael Cretu, born on May 18, 1957, in Bucharest, Romania, is an acclaimed music producer and composer best known as the founder of the musical project Enigma. He studied classical music at the University of Music in Frankfurt and began his career in the late 1970s. Before creating Enigma in 1990, he worked as a producer and composer for various artists. Enigma's first album, "MCMXC a.D.," achieved tremendous success and set the standards for the new-age and ambient music genres. Cretu is known for his unique ability to create atmospheric and innovative sounds that combine elements from various musical genres and cultures.
