Mercyful Fate is a Danish heavy metal band, formed in 1981 in Copenhagen. They have had a significant influence on black metal, primarily due to their haunting and dark lyrics, as well as King Diamond's high-pitched vocals. Their music combines proto-black metal with traditional heavy metal, creating a unique sound. Since their debut album "Melissa" in 1983, they have established themselves as an iconic band in the metal scene, subsequently influencing many bands of their generation and beyond.
