Elf
Elf was an American rock band formed in 1967 by singer and bassist Ronnie James Dio, keyboardist Doug Thaler, drummer Gary Driscoll, and guitarists Nick Pantas and David Feinstein. The band was initially called Electric Elves but was shortened to Elves in 1968 and eventually to Elf in 1972. Elf disbanded in 1975 after recording three albums and after most of its lineup had been absorbed into the newly formed band Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. The three albums they managed to release were Elf (1972), Carolina County Ball (1974), and Trying to Burn the Sun (1975). Their contribution to hard rock as they formed the first skeleton of Rainbow, while Dio later had his own very successful career.
