Burzum is the pseudonym of Norwegian musician Varg Vikernes, who was one of the most controversial yet influential figures in the black metal scene. He was born on February 11, 1973, in Bergen, Norway. He began his music career in the early 1990s and recorded a series of albums that defined the black metal genre with his unique atmospheric and minimalistic approach. Alongside his music, Vikernes became known for his ideological views and his involvement in criminal activities, including the church burnings and the murder of Øystein Aarseth (Euronymous) from the band Mayhem. He was sentenced to prison in 1994 and released in 2009. After his release, he continued to create music, shifting his interest to more ambient and electronic elements, while also writing books about his personal views and theories.
