About the album Walk, Don't Run

A group of musicians in 1960 present an arrangement of the instrumental piece "Walk, Don't Run" by jazz musician Johnny Smith from 1954. The arrangement, which has incorporated the dominant rock 'n' roll elements of that era, immediately becomes a big hit, and so The Ventures from Tacoma, Washington, go into the studio and record their first album, which will naturally be titled "Walk, Don't Run."

Things happened so hastily and quickly that the people at Liberty Records, when they had prepared the album, couldn't find the band to photograph them for the album cover as they had left for a small tour. Thus, four random employees of the record company (!) were forced to be photographed holding some musical instruments, with the model Barbara Grimes passing in front of them.

The album reached No. 11 on the Billboard chart and sold 500,000 copies. Thus, it became the first of the three gold albums by The Ventures.
