Sneakin' Suspicion by Dr. Feelgood
About the album Sneakin' Suspicion
Sneakin' Suspicion by Dr. Feelgood was released in May 1977 and marks a milestone in the band's history, as it was the last album with the iconic guitarist Wilko Johnson. The release period was marked by the departure of Wilko Johnson before the promotion tour began, with Gypie Mayo taking his place for live performances.
The album operates within the realms of pub rock, rhythm and blues, and rock and roll. It maintains the band's hard and direct sound, but with a slightly more polished production compared to their previous albums. The album was recorded at Rockfield Studios in Monmouth, Wales. The production was handled by American Bert de Coteaux. His selection aimed for a more "polished" sound for the American market, which caused tensions within the band. The eponymous track Sneakin' Suspicion (with the b-side Lights Out) was released in May 1977. It was the band's first single to enter the British charts, reaching No. 47.
Sneakin' Suspicion reached No. 10 on the UK Albums Chart and stayed there for six weeks. Despite its success in Britain, it did not achieve a similar trajectory in the USA.
