Vangelis Papathanassiou, known as Vangelis, was a Greek composer and musician, born on March 29, 1943, in Agria, Magnesia. He gained international recognition for blending electronic music with orchestral sounds and is particularly known for his work on film scores. His most famous composition is the Oscar-winning soundtrack for the film "Chariots of Fire" (1981), featuring the iconic theme "Chariots of Fire." He also composed the music for the films "Blade Runner" (1982) and "1492: Conquest of Paradise" (1992). Beyond film compositions, he collaborated with artists such as Demis Roussos and Jon Anderson, producing notable work that combines various musical genres. Vangelis remained an iconic presence on the global music scene until his death on May 17, 2022.
