The Monks were a pioneering garage rock band from the United States, formed in 1964 by American soldiers serving in Germany. They influenced the evolution of rock music with their unique sound, characterized by intentionally simple song structures and the intense use of feedback and distinct rhythms. Their only album "Black Monk Time" was released in 1966 and, while not commercially successful at the time, it gained artistic reputation and has been recognized as a precursor to punk. Their lyrics often contained political and anti-consumerist messages, and their live performances were characterized by intensity and theatricality.
