The Pretenders are a British-American rock band formed in 1978. Singer and guitarist Chrissie Hynde is the main member and the only consistent presence in the band since its inception. Their debut album, "Pretenders," was released in 1980 and achieved great success with tracks like "Brass in Pocket," "In The Middle Of The Road," and "Kid." The band has changed lineup many times but continues to create and tour with Hynde at the center. The Pretenders have combined elements of punk, pop, and rock to create a distinctive sound that has influenced many musicians.
