The short-lived form - in the first phase - of Magazine operated in Manchester from 1977 to 1981. Magazine was formed after the singer Howard Devoto and guitarist John McGeoch left Buzzcocks seeking a more artistic and refined approach to music, as the punk rock of that era did not satisfy them. Their first release was Real Life in 1978. The band reformed in 2009, a reunion that lasted until 2011.
